This looks like your great-aunt’s midwest eatery, but we thought we’d give it a try. On entrance, huge whiff of antiseptic cleaner, and all patrons seemed to be post-80’s, vibes of Nursing Home Cafeteria. However, the service was excellent, and the steaks were absolutely perfectly executed. Highly suggest the Filet ala Bernaise. We’ll go again.
My husband and I heard raves about this steak house, so we tried it the other evening. I ordered the ribs with rice pilaf. The pilaf was wonderful, but the ribs were very dry and did not have enough BBQ sauce on them. My husband ordered the filet minon oscar with lobster, the steak to be medium, when it was served, the steak was rare, purple red in color, and the lobster was crab meat. How disappointing.
The service was terrible, even though there were only 17 customers eating at that time. (NAME DELETED PER VBR) was our server and I thought it was rude of her to count her tip money at the empty table next to us. We usually leave 20% or more, but thia woman got 15% for her terrible service.
We will never go there to dine again.
Walked in expecting aroma of grilled steaks - we were overtaken with what smelled like the floors were just mopped - with a dirty mop and dirty water.
We turned around and left.
Ordered the Porterhouse, asked the server about how thick the cut was. She says about 1″, not great, barely acceptable especially for a $28.95 steak. Said ok. Got steak, was somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4 inch thick. Cooked right, but tasted awful. Very dry. Server offered to take back and replace with a fillet. No thanks. Been to 14th Ave Steak house many times over the years and always get the same. This is the first time it has been terrible. I used to brag to people I know about how good this place is. Oh well another good restaurant that quit trying.
When I finished my meal at the 14th Avenue Steakhouse I didn’t feel like I had gotten what I paid for. Don’t get me wrong, my fillet was alright, but not memorable in any way. The price tag for the fillet would have you think it should have been very memorable. I don’t mind an expensive meal but when paying more for a meal you expect to get more - be it in the form of the restaurant atmosphere, food presentation, quality of service, etc. The staff was friendly and my steak was about average. The presentation of the meal was below average.
This is truly the first steak that I have had out that is perfect. They use only the top grade of steaks and then when you add one of their great wine selections you have the perfect meal. And the prices are quite reasonable. Especially the early bird which is a 4 course meal for under $15- Can’t go wrong with top quality food and under average prices. Service also was good.
The ambiance, the service, the food were all exquisite! I thought it would be hard to find a great steakhouse after moving from Philadelphia, but I was pleasantly and happily wrong. House salad was scrumptious, but no words can describe the filet mignon. Didn’t care for the potato soup (way to spicy for my palate), but everything else was marvelous.
I have been back, and will continue my dining out at the 14th Ave Steakhouse. TG414th.
I have been going to 14th basically since it opened and have always had a great time and great food. We have also had the same waiter most of the time so that always makes it nice when the server knows your name. Their French Onion soup is my favorite.
I just came back from there, I had the rib eye and rice. The steak was sub par for the price, it was like chewing on a tuft of shoe leather, but I could accept that, but what I had a problem with was that the rice tasted like it had comet in it.
I brought it to the attention of the staff (in a very polite way) and the owner/manager came to my table and told me it was oregano… No offense, but I eat meals at home on a regular basis and there is not way in the world that comet could ever take like powdered bleach cleaner.
I did not want to cause a scene, so I basically spent 60-70 dollars for a meal that I could not digest.
It was also a sad thing to see that I was 60 years younger than the next youngest person.
This place is only busy because there is an entire generation of older people that do not know how to look up reviews online.
I would avoid this place.
I have been a regular patron of this fine restaurant for well over 10 years. I am currently in my mid-fifties, and take offense that other report that it has a “nursing home” ambiance. If you go after the “early birds”, you will see younger people dining there.
The service is always exquisite, surpassed only by the great food. The meat is always top quality, the salad is superb, and the bread is divine. The 14th Avenue Steakhouse is a definate destination when we have guests, our grandchildren are always welcome there, and they love it too. I can’t imagine anyplace on the Treasure Coast that offers the experience that you get at this unbelievably great restaurant.
I hope to continue eating there for the next 20 years!
