Great Cuban cuisine in a most unlikley locale and add to that the personality of Felix. Great combination.

Take it from a guy who knows food, Felix’s Place is a great place to indulge in some incredible meals. The owner and his wife work there every night and make sure you are comfortable. Let them tell you how and what to order, sit back and enjoy. Dont let the location fool you and see for yourself.

A couple years I ate here and thought, forget it. I heard things had changed and tried again. Night and day. Attentive service and delicious food. My teenage son worked as a waiter at a French restaurant in Boston and developed radar for little tricks like disguising leftovers and using the microwave (ever have a server tell you “watch out, the plate is hot”?) that short the client. He gave Felix very high marks all around, noting that Felix’s regular sorties from the kitchen to talk to patrons and discuss their choices is exactly what one should expect from a chef-owner of a small restaurant. I’ve eaten a lot of Cuban food in different cities. Felix’s stands out.

Just love it…Great REAL food!!! and just have to say one more thing about
Robert E.’s comment…just because a server tells you the plate is hot…Does NOT mean that it is from the microwave!! There are things called plate warmers (this is so your food doesn’t sit under a heat lamp!) and your food stays hot! Don’t believe everything you hear…Just enjoy your meal!!

I would agree with Rebecca on the plate warming thing. Some restaurants even put plates in the oven to warm them. A former restaurant, Cafe Du Soir, would do exactly that. Plates would be put in the oven to warm them and then they would go under the heat lamp for service. Entrees would NEVER be served on cold plates and that was the norm not the exception.

i just love it, is a really good cuisine, and is real cuban gourmet, is definitely not that fancy like oriente, at costa d’ este, but the food and the service is much better.

Felix’s Place was a recent find for me in Vero Beach. As soon as I walked into the restaurant the importance they place on customer service was obvious. Their high level of service is matched by the quality of their food - you won’t leave hungry or disappointed! It is common to see Felix himself making rounds to verify that his customers are pleased with their meals; I was very impressed.

My wife and I like to stay at the Disney’s Vero Beach resort. While we were there three years ago, we were looking through the menus at the front desk for an interesting place to eat. It just so happened that one of Vacation Club ‘Neighbors’, a Cuban gentleman, asked us what type of food we liked. Being rather eclectic in our tastes, we were open to anything. He then mentioned Felix’s place. FORTUITOUS HAPPENSTANCE!!! He said, “Don’t let the local fool you.” We would have been a poorer couple if we had. The warmth that the owners exude, the special treatment and the GREAT food make this place a true find. When we returned 18 months later, they still remembered us and offered us a fresh anchovy appetizer to try. It was out of this world. The cervichi is not to be missed. There is not a clunker on the menu!

Near the end of Feb 2009 we are going back again, and I can only hope that the friendships we have started there will continue to mature.

Love this place. Going tonight with friends. Always treated with such a high level of service in a comfortable atmosphere. The food is to die for. I try and stop in on my way home from work on Fridays for a Cuban coffee as a reward for a week of hard work.

We stayed at Disney Vero Beach over Halloween weekend. Needed a romantic restaurant for our Anniversary, and wanted something unique. Felix’s place was more than we coudl hope for. As foodies, we are very demanding - and Chef Felix delivers. My wife had the rabbit - no better dish ever! Felix came out to discuss his dishes and our wine, and the staff was extremely attentive. Sergio was our waiter, and he was so impressive that we returned the next night with our kids for a Flamenco dinner - it was beyond extraordinary! Our kids had a wonderful dinner, and a fantastic cultural experince with an amazing Flamenco danceer. Chef Felix and his staff are absolute wizards. You CANNOT miss this restaurant if you are vacationing in Vero!

Once again we stroll into Felix’s place after being away for nearly a year. The sights and aroma pulled us in like a cartoon bear being drawn to the honey pot by a wafty, scent shaped, beaconing finger. My wife and I make it a point to eat here at least once every time we vacation in Vero Beach. This time (Sept. ‘09) we brought some family members who we just happened to run into at the Disney Resort. My aunt and cousins - what a pleasant surprise! They had never tried Cuban food and since they are used to a fairly bland diet (traditional New England fare) we were a little hesitant, but to our delight, they loved the food! We started off with Ceviche and Ropa Vieja, two classic dishes. The ceviche was wonderfully limey with just the right amount of cilantro. The Ropa, pungently seasoned and served in green plantain cups, filled the mouth with succulent strands of beef that begged another fork-full before you could finish the one before it.
We spent the rest of the evening sharing our entrees, not a clunker in the lot. Don’t miss the coffee at the end of the night. And the fried plantains - to die for!
Do not be put off by the fact that the restaurant is located at a gas station. If you allow this to keep you away, you will have really missed a gem.
Can’t wait to return. Be there in April, ‘10!!!

I’m surprised at the reviews here! After reading them my husband and I went to try Felix’s to get a fill for the Cuban food I’ve missed since moving out of Florida to New England. I must say…the food wasn’t “terrible” but it left a lot to be desired, and I didn’t taste a true “Cuban” quality in it. Growing up in a Cuban restaurant and being very familiar with the style of cooking I was disappointed. If you have little to no experience with true Cuban cooking you may enjoy the food, but if you are looking for the Cuban satisfaction, I’d say skip it.

Hadn’t been to Felix’s for a while. Went last night with friends. Absolutely wonderful. We had a large party and everyone was soooo pleased with their meals. Try the grilled chicken, the fried plantains and the yellow rice. FABULOUS. Can’t wait to go back again, soon.

What! Really?

Hushpuppies are pieces of fried cornmeal batter which are a great southern tradition. Years ago, pieces of the fried batter were fed to hungry dogs that begged for food. After the scraps were given to the dogs, the owner would say “Now hush, puppy.”
